[The Plan] Amanda woke up about an hour later and headed to the kitchen to make lunch.. First she have to prepare soup and semovita, then pancake.
About that pancake. Amanda doesn’t think she was going to make it. She doesn’t understand anything.
She got to the kitchen and began setting the recipe for the melon soup.
With all the things she saw in the refrigerator and cupboards, she knew that the soup was going to be ‘ofe akworo aka te – A rich soup’
As she lay out the recipe and ingredients, she remembered her mother’s funny words.
«You have to be veery careful. You must be a very good employee. You must make him see how good you are at cleaning, cooking and taking care of his daughter. He have to see you as a wife material»
Amanda shook her head and chuckled.
“Mama won’t kill me. Why will her thought even go that side? This is really unbelievable.”
About thirty minutes into the cooking, she felt a presence behind her as she was stirring the soup with a soup spoon.
She turned and saw it was I.K, his hands folded as he stared at the assets in front of him.
I.K had woken up few minutes ago, recalling the sweet dream he was having where he was kissing Amanda and grabbing her butt like his life depended on it. He had quickly wore his shirt and raced into the main building and perceiving the aroma of a soup on fire, he had tiptoed to the kitchen and had been leaning on the door frame for about three minutes, staring at the amazing works God did on the lady in from of him.
‘If he doesn’t get this girl, God punish him.’ He had swore as he licked his lips. He was expecting her to turn and see him anytime soon and when she did, he grinned at her.
“How long have you been standing there?” she asked.
He uncrossed his arms, left the door and walled fully into the kitchen.
“E never tee – It haven’t been long” he said.
“What are you doing here, you should be at the gate.” Amanda said as she turned back to the pot of steaming soup.
“Shey dey born me, born gate? Abi na gate wey I go die. I say make I come help you.” He said, smiling at her, even though Amanda’s eyes were on the soup she was about to bring down from the cooker.
“There’s no need for that. I’m done with the soup already. I just need to make semovita.” She said as she turned off the cooker, brought down the pot of soup, took an empty pot and walked to the sink to add a little quantity of water into the pot.
“Chai… I dey hungry before but as I enter, see you… My hunger disappear.” I.K lied trying to find words to start his confession of love to Amanda but his stomach immediately betrayed him.
It grumbled loudly causing Amanda to laugh.
“Your stomach doesn’t want you to lie.” She said.
I.k scratched his head. “I think.”
Amanda left the sink and walked back to the cooker. She turned it on and placed the pot of water on the fire.
“Ehm wetin you wan make I help you with.. I wan help you do something as I no dey do anything for that gate now.” I. k said.
“Don’t worry.. I don’t need you to do anything.” Amanda said.
“You sure? The plate nko? Make I wash am?” he asked.
“No no, I will wash them.” she said.
“Ah, okay na.” I.K gave up and sat on one of the breakfast stools as he stared at Amanda walk to the cabinets, grab a semovita and walked back to the pot.
She took a turner, opened the semovita bag and as she poured the semovita into the heated water, she began stirring it with the turner.
“Chai… You sabi cook oh.. With the way the soup dey smell ehn. I know say I go bite my fingers.” I.K said.
Amanda laughed. “Don’t conclude yet. You haven’t tasted it.” she said.
“I don conclude am already. As you fine well well, Chai… Even if e no sweet ehn.. E go dey sweet for my mouth.” he said ‘just like the way you go sweet for bed’ he thought and grinned.
He’s head is scattering.
Chai.. This girl is making him go crazy.
He hugged himself with many fantasies running through his head.
Amanda saw him hug himself and wondered if he’s cold.
“Are you cold?” she asked.
“E worse pass cold – it’s worse than cold” he said.
“Malaria?” she asked.
He shook his head.
“No worry, just dey do wetin you dey do.” he said.
Amanda shrugged and went on with the semovita she is turning.
A red car pulled in front of Desmond Okoye’s gate.
“Wow, is this really his house?” Chioma asked Gold as they admired the house from inside the car.
“It should. It’s the address that your brother gave me.”
“Wow.. He’s really wealthy. I had no idea my brother was actually close to his boss. I should have grabbed the opportunity if I knew.” Chioma said.
“Come on babe, you are dating Collins. He’s handsome and rich.” Gold said.
“But not as handsome and rich as Desmond Okoye. Babe, don’t mess up this opportunity.” Chioma said.
“Of course I won’t. Wow look at the house. I can imagine the interior beauty already.” Gold said.
“What did Henry say about his relationship status sef?” Chioma asked.
“He’s divorced for four years now. His ex wife is a white lady. He has a daughter of five years who he was able to take from his wife three months ago after three years of going to courts and all that. For that three years, I was surprised when he told me he had never had a relationship with any lady.” Gold said.
“Wow really. I think he was facing heart break and think he don’t need any lady at the moment ” chioma said.
“I don’t care. I’m going to make him mine, with my woman magic. You know wetin I mean nah!” Gold said.
They laughed and did a high five.
“I know babe, don’t waste time. Start tonight if possible.” Chioma said.
“Of course I’m giving him a call tonight. If he doesn’t want any lady, he go want me by force.” Gold said and they did another high five.
“That’s it babe. I can’t wait to celebrate with you soon. Let’s drive to a nearby restaurant. I’m hungry.” Chioma said, started the car and drove off.
“Me too,” Gold said.
Back to Amanda and I.K. Amanda was done making the semovita.
She turned off the cooker and transfered the semovita from the pot to a bowl sized cooler.
“Are you sure you don finish the whole cooking cos I remember say we get cricket for this house.” I.k said.
Amanda took out plates to dish out I.K’s food.
“Which cricket?” Amanda asked pretending she have no idea who he’s talking about.
“The small pikin wey dey this house – The little child in this house..” he said.
“She isn’t a cricket.” Amanda said as she dropped his covered food in front of him. “The timetable says pancake but I don’t understand the instructions I read in google. I will have to Make another thing for her.”
“You for tell Oga make he teach you. Na so other nannies do.” he said.
“Really? I didn’t even think about that one.” Amanda said.
“Make you tell him this night, he fit teach you. You go learn am o, cos na that one she like well well.” he said.” he said.
“Okay. You should go now.” Amanda said.
“Ehn, make I stay small now. Again, I wan tell you something.” he said.
“What’s that?” she asked.
“See ehn..” he paused and scratched his head. “See ehn Amanda, I like you.” he said. “I like you very well. I go want make we dey very closer.”
“You like me, you want us to be closer.. In what way? I don’t get you” Amanda asked.
“Ehmmm I mean make I… no, no worry. Make I just dey go. As I don see say your face don dey change, I no fit talk am again.” he said, stood up, carried the plates of food and walked out.
Amanda chuckled.
“Is it what I’m thinking? He’s sick in the head if it’s what he is trying to say ” She said and walked back to the counter.
She will have to make noodles for Odeya when she comes back.
She dished out her own food and settled on the breakfast bar to eat.
At the office, Desmond was having his lunch when his phone rang.
He picked the phone and saw it was his mom, calling.
He exhaled and picked it up.
“Hello mom, I’m having lunch right now, I would call you back later OK.” he said.
“I can’t take that. I know immediately you are done with that lunch of yours, you will get back to working. I want us to talk now.” she said.
“Okay fine. What do you want us to talk about?” he asked, hoping it isn’t about marriage.
“It’s about the new nanny. How is she fairing with Odeya?”
“Really mom, is that the reason you called?” he asked.
“Yes dear. I want to know how she is coping with Odeya.” she asked.
“I don’t think it’s okay now but she seem to be tolerant. I hope she stays longer, I’m tired of changing nannies.” He said.
“Of course she will stay really longer. And apart from that, isn’t she beautiful and well endowed?” She asked.
“What mom? Why would you be asking me that?” He asked, not believing his mom.
“I have to ask. You know Odeya like beautiful people.. You should try and check her well enough.. If she isn’t beautiful enough, let me know.” she said.
“Mom, she is okay. I have to drop the call now. Bye.” Desmond said getting irritated.
“okay son. Don’t forget to like her too. She’s a nice girl.”
“Bye mom.” he said and dropped the call.
“what’s wrong with my mom.. Why’s she always being so dramatic?” he said with a sigh.
«I have to ask. You know Odeya like beautiful people.. You should try and check her well enough.. If she isn’t beautiful enough, let me know.»
“Tch.. Mom you are really unbelievable.” he said
Then he remembered what Odeya said that morning.
«Dad why are you staring at her ass?»
Desmond shook his head…
‘Everyone is so dramatic! I wasn’t even staring at her ass or whatever or did I? Of course not’
He picked the spoon and went on with the fried rice he was eating.

Mrs Monica removed the phone from her ear and smiled at the woman sitting in front of her. She is Mrs Chika, Amanda’s mom.
“Oh, he’s so annoying. But we can’t give up.” Mrs Monica said.
“I’m wondering how it can be possible for both of them to fall in love. There are two different worlds now, a boss and the nanny. Only in the movies that such happens dear friend.” Mrs Chika said.
Mrs Monica smiled. “You have no idea. Just be patient enough. When he eats her meals, and finds out how wonderful she is at taking care of his daughter and the house, he will definitely fall in love with her.”
“I still don’t believe it. This kind of plan.” Mrs Chika said.
“I do. You have no idea how much I loved your daughter right from that day she helped me find my lost bag and returned it back to me. The jewelry inside that bag was very precious to me.. I had to look for her for months with her face still stuck in my head. She don’t remember me but I do really well. I said in my heart that I will find her and make her my daughter in law. And when I finally did, I knew it wasn’t going to he easy because of my son. I can’t just present Amanda to him and say ‘okay son, you are going to marry her’.. I did that up to four times but he chased them out immediately. If I really want Amanda as my daughter in law, this is the only way.”
“By being a maid and a nanny to his daughter.” Mrs Chika asked.
“Yes. It’s going to be successful and you will be awed. Don’t forget to keep this a secret.. This two children mustn’t get to know about this. About the money I promised you, I will send it to your account by tomorrow.” Mrs Monica said.
Mrs Chika exhaled. “Thank you. I did exactly what you told me to do. Though she laughed it off.”
“Don’t worry about it, as far as you told her. It won’t get deleted from her mind. She will think about it.” Mrs Monica said. “I can’t wait to call you in-law.” she smiled at Mrs Chika.
Mrs Chika smiled. “Me too.”
Around to 4 o’clock, Amanda got prepared to go bring Odeya home with Peter.
Peter arrived and she went into the car.
“Good afternoon sir” she greeted Peter.
“Thank you my sister. I can’t remember the last time someone added sir for me. Don’t worry, I go pray for you. You will stay longer here.”
Peter said.
Amanda chuckled.
“I hope that gateman doesn’t disturb you. Before he even open his mouth, dont forget to slap him the kind slap that will send five stars out of his eyes.” Peter said.
Amanda laughed.
Peter took his face out of the window. I.K was sitting down on the chair, in front of his quarter with a radio to his ear.
“Shey you don blind? You never see say I wan Comot – are you blind? Haven’t you noticed that I’m ready to drive out?” Peter asked him.
I.K dropped the radio and stood up from the plastic chair.
“See how you dey talk like say na your papa get the motto.” I.k said as he headed to the gate. “Shey you don blind? You never see say I wan Comot ?” he mimicked Peter in a very funny tone that made Amanda chuckle.
“You don mad – you’ve gone mad.” Peter cursed at I.K as he opened the gate.
“Na you carry all your village people madness come Lagos.” I.k cursed back.
“Time don dey come when oga go fire you.” Peter said.
“Since last year, na the same thing wet you dey talk everytime. Na you go first me comot here. Peter wey deny Jesus.” I.k said.
“We shall see.” Peter said as he drove out.
“Biko zuzuri gi puo here – please get your stupid self out of here.” I.K cursed.
Peter drove into the road and entered St. Valentina school road.
“Idiot..” Peter was still cursing at I.k
Amanda sighed. “You two shouldn’t be picking at yourselves. It would be more fun if both of you are on good terms.” She said to Peter.
“Leave that idiot. Before this year ends, he will get fired.” Peter said.
“You shouldn’t pray for your colleague to get fired. It’s not a nice prayer. It might backfire.” Amanda said.
“Backfire wetin? Watch and see then.” Peter said.
They pulled into Valentina school and Amanda got down and headed to Odeya’s class.
She could see white children too which means that it isn’t only Amanda that’s an halfcaste in the school but she is sure she will be the most sassy among them.
She got to her class and met Odeya arguing with her classmate, a boy.
“Don’t think you are so smart because your test points has passed mine just a little! I will beat you during examination. I’m more smarter than you are.” The boy yelled at Odeya who rolled her eyes.
“Get your mouth far off my face, you are throwing spits all over my face.” Odeya said and I widened my eyes.
“You are the most annoying girl i’ve ever come across.” The cute dark boy said with so much rage.
Odeya rolled her eyes again. ” if You are so disturbed by my intelligence. All you need to do is study more hard but don’t think you are gonna overtake me. I’m too hard even in study ladder.” she said.
“Who do you think you are Odeya?” The boy asked.
Odeya fling her hair and smiled at the boy. “Someone different and smarter than you.” she said.
Amanda clutched her hand on her mouth, astonished as this little kids exchange words.
“That’s enough guys.” A matured voice suddenly said. It was their form teacher.
Amanda had no idea there was a teacher in the class. The teacher stood up and walked over to the kids, taking careful steps with the heels she wore less she falls.
“Odeya, Jeremy. That’s okay.” The teacher said as she stood in between them. That was when she saw Amanda.
“Hello, how can I help you?” she asked Amanda.
“I’m here to take Odeya Okoye” Amanda said and showed her the card that approves her to take Odeya.
The high heels teacher collected it, stared at it for awhile before giving it back to her.
“What about her driver?” she asked.
“I’m here.” Peter said. Amanda turned and saw Peter at the door.
“She will be the one to bring her and take her from onward.” Peter said.
“You always change new people every two weeks. I’m now confused.” The teacher mumbled to Amanda’s hearing.
She handed Amanda back the card. “Alright Odeya, go take your bag and your lunch box and go home. You’ve caused a lot of trouble today.” she said.
“Your heels caused more noise.” Odeya said.

Bia Odeya, what did they fix in that your mouth eh?
And what I’m I seeing? did Desmon’s mom and Amanda’s mom make such plan?
Gold, Gold.. How many times did I call you. Better run for ya dear life Odeya mouth carry venom.

EPISODE 6 (unedited)
[Pouring the aggression on her] They headed back home and through the short journey, Odeya wasn’t looking happy.
Her face seem to hold a heavy load of anger which made Amanda worried.
She wondered if it’s the word exchange between her and her classmate.
‘Of course it has to be’ Amanda thought. Maybe she could try asking her but Amanda want to be very careful with Odeya.. She doesn’t want to be lashed by the little girl’s mouth. Even if she is going to, not around Peter. Maybe when they are alone and she’s certain that only she would hear the mouth lashing.
She decided to ask her about her unhappy face when they got home.
They finally got home as Peter had to horn the car five times before the gate opened.
Immediately the car drove in, Odeya wind down the glass and yelled at I.K “you are fired!!”
‘What?’ Amanda gasped.
“Chineke me e!- Oh My God! Fired keh” Peter said.
“I am fired?? Wetin I do?” I.k said as he closed the gate and rushed towards.
Peter stopped the car and Amanda came down, came over and carried Odeya down from the car.
I.K came to Odeya’s front. “Little misses, wetin I do? Wetin I do biko? – what did I do?” he asked.
“Out of the way,” Odeya said to him.
I.K got out of the way with dropped jaw as Odeya headed to the house.
“Me fired! I no wan believe am. I no say Oga no fit fire me.” I.K said.
“You see your life? Wetin I tell you? Who tell you say Oga no fit fire you? Better go and beg her. I would have to horn a million times at the gate before you open it. Today your cup has filled up.” Peter jeered at I.K
“You sef close that your dirty mouth. When better people dey talk, you sef go join open mouth.” I.K snapped at Peter.
Amanda cleared her throat. “Please you two are grown ups and might even have families now. Stop quarreling and exchanging words like children. I will go and talk to Odeya.. I’m sure she’s unhappy today that’s why. I will plead with her not to tell her dad. And you. I.K, try to be active on your job or else you will loose it and I’m sure you don’t want to.” Amanda said and with that, she headed inside.
Peter clapped. “See person that have sense. This girl is a correct home trained lady with ph.D. Na the kind person that suppose to be in this house not people like you. I pray you get fired so next time when you get Job, you won’t toy with it.”
I.K snuffed at him. “Your plans no go work Peter wet deny Jesus. Your plans no go work.” I.K said and headed towards his quarter.
“Bia, where you dey go? You won’t go and start begging that girl with your knees on the ground? E be like say this work din tire you.” Peter said.
“I trust my Amanda.” I.K said.
“You say wetin? Your Amanda. Your Amanda?” Peter said. “This man don’t know what he is doing.” he said to himself.
Inside Odeya’s room, Amanda helped Odeya take off her school uniforms, shoes and socks.
“Did you make my pancake?” Odeya asked her.
Amanda shook her head. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t do it. I thought I wouldn’t do it right. But don’t worry I will make you something else. Do you want noodles. I heard it’s your favorite too.” Amanda said.
The glare that Odeya gave Amanda almost frightened the life out of her.
“Make me pancake you lazy Nanny!!” She yelled on top of her voice.
Amanda was shocked by Odeya’s outburst. Did she just call her Lazy nanny?
How did she become a lazy nanny?
Amanda felt like slapping the hell out of the little girl but only God knows what held her from doing so. She clinched her teeth in anger as she stared monsteriously at Odeya while Odeya stared back the same way.
“Tell me, what you gonna do to me huh?” Odeya asked and crossed her arms. “I’m asking you nanny. You can’t do anything you know that. This is my dad’s house and I will say whatever I wanna say to you, get that.”
Amanda shook her head.
“You have no respect for me Odeya. Even though I’m your nanny, show me some respect. You are five, I’m twenty four!” Amanda said.
“My mom would say, age is just a number.. She doesn’t care about age and age respect. So do I. I don’t care how much old you are. Besides, you should be working in an office at your age, not being a nanny.” Odeya threw the bombshell at Amanda who fell down instantly, almost breaking in tears by this girl’s words.
“I don’t care how you do it, just make me pancake.” Odeya said.
Amanda forced back the tears about to roll down her from her eyes.
“Odeya why are you being so mean to me? Why are you really sassy to everyone around you, even in school. You are too pretty to be a sassy and rude girl. Can we please be a little nice to me.”
‘When I’m annoyed, I pour the aggression on anyone close to me. I’m always sassy so get used to it.’ Amanda said within her.
“If you don’t want to loose your job like that gateman is going to, then do what you are supposed to do.” Odeya said.
“I can’t make that.” Amanda said.
“Make it.”
“I can’t.”
“Then you are leaving.”
“I won’t!”
Amanda stood up. “Because your dad pleaded to me, not to.”
Odeya stood up also from the bed and stood in Amanda’s front with crossed arms.
“Really? Did you say, plead? Why would my dad plead to you?” she asked.
“Because he’s tired of changing nannies every week.” Amanda said.
“He shouldn’t be tired already because I’m going to make him regret ever taking me from my mom.” She said.
Amanda raised her brows. ‘What does she mean by that? Her dad took her away from her mom?’
“I’ve not started with him yet. I’m gonna keep giving him hard times until he takes me back to my mom. I hate this place.. I hate this country! I hate that school! I hate every one of you!” Odeya fired and with that she climbed on her bed and covered her whole self with the duvet.
“Go away.” She said to Amanda who stood with dropped jaw, wondering what really happened between her dad and her mom.
“Don’t stay there anymore, leave my room.” Ode ya said under the duvet.
Amanda exhaled.
“I will. I will go and make you pancake. I will try to make it perfectly.” she said and with that, she picked up odeya’s uniforms, lunchbox and left the room.
Once she left, Odeya bursted into a whimper.
“I want to go back to my mom. I hate everything about this place. It sucks.” She cried.
‘What could have happened between her mom and dad? Did they get married and got divorced or what exactly’ Amanda wondered as she headed to the laundry room first to drop Odeya’s uniforms and then head to the kitchen to try making her pancake.
“What do I do? She seem so dejected. She is too little for that.” Amanda sighed.
She wished Odeya can tell her about it, but she know the sassy girl would only lash at her again. She almost brought tears from her eyes minutes ago.
‘If her mom and dad are having issues, then she wish she can reunite them again but if it’s divorce… Then it would be pretty hard and may never be possible.
Amanda shrugged. “What right do I have to get into the family issue.. I’m just a nanny.” Amanda said as she dropped the clothes inside a washing machine and walked out to kitchen. As she entered the kitchen, she remembered Odeya’s words.
«Besides, you should be working in an office at your age, not being a nanny»
Amanda breathed out and leaned her back on the kitchen counter.
“As little as she is, her words hurt really bad.”
«My mom would say, age is just a number.. She doesn’t care about age and age respect. So do I. I don’t care how much old you are.»
“She must be a replica of her mom, Now I understand. If her dad really took her away from her mom, then it was a nice idea.” she said.
She took out her phone from her trouser pocket, turned on her data connection and typed on google. ‘How to make a delicious pancake.’ then clicked ‘search.
Answers were brought out for her and she exhaled.
“I will try my best even though I know she’s not going to appreciate it.” she said.
( About an hour and 30 minutes later)
Amanda was done with the pancake. It look quite alike with the ones pictured on the internet.. She hoped she tried making it right but she knows there wasn’t any need to hope because Odeya would not accept that she tried.
She carried the plate of pancake, juice and water in a tray and headed upstairs to her room.
When she got to the door, she opened it and walked in. Deya was still covered in the duvet and the time was around 6pm.
She must be very hungry.
Amanda dropped the tray of food on top of the table in the room and walked to the bed. She rolled off the duvet from Odeya’s head and realized she was sleeping.
‘Would it be okay to wake her up?’ Amanda pondered.
‘Of course she must be hungry. I have to.’ She said and with that she tapped her on the shoulder. “Odeya, wake up and eat your pancake.”
“Odeya, wake up and eat something.” Amanda said and Odeya mumbled, “Jeremy, I..like
.. you.”
Amanda raised her brows. She couldn’t believe what she just heard.
‘Is she dreaming? Does it mean she likes that boy even with all the harsh words she said to him? ‘ Amanda wondered.
She was still wondering when Odeya opened her eyes and their eyes jammed.
Amanda smiled nervously. “Oh you are awake now. I prepared the pancake for you.”
Odeya narrowed her eyes. “How long have you been here?” she asked Amanda.
“Uhm.. It haven’t been upto five minutes.” Amanda said.
“Did you hear anything?” Odeya asked.
“What?” Amanda asked. ‘Did she mean that?’ Amanda wondered.
“Sometimes I talk out while dreaming. Did you hear anything?” Odeya asked.
Amanda wondered the answer to give her. She has only a short time to give her answer..
“No I didn’t. You didn’t say it out this time. I didn’t hear anything.” Amanda lied.
Odeya sighed and sat up. “That’s a relief. Where is the pancake.. I’m sure I wouldn’t look at it twice.” She said.
Amanda rushed to the table, carried the tray and came back. She place it beside Odeya on the bed.
“Here it is.” she said and opened it.
Odeya twisted her face. “What’s this?”
“A pancake. Have a taste. It taste nice.” Amanda said.
“Excuse me, take this away from me.” Odeya said.
Amanda breathed out. “But I told you that I cant make it, you insisted that I should.”
“Oh yes I did.. And you didn’t make it right. I can’t eat this trash. Take it away.” Odeya said.
“Why not have a bit first?” Amanda said.
“Oh really? Okay then.” Odeya said and cut from the pancake, she put it into her mouth and even though it tasted quite nice, she have an evil plan to unleash.
She acted like someone about to vomit then the next thing, she threw the pancake in her mouth on Amanda’s face.
“Oh my Odeya!” Amanda shouted.
Odeya smiled triumphantly. “Ah that taste horrible. I couldn’t swallow it.” she lied.
Amanda twisted her face in horror as she tried taking off the pancakes on her face.
“That’s your punishment for lying to me.” Odeya said.
“How?” Amanda asked, still taking the pancakes off her face.
“You lied about not hearing anything. You spent long time thinking about the answer to give, that was when I knew you did.” Odeya said
Amanda’s hand got stuck on her face in both astonishment and embarrassment. She stared at this wonder girl with wide eyes.
Odeya took the fork, cut from the pancake and ate.
“It taste quite good. You must be a nice cook but not more than my dad.” she said.
Wow, for the first time, Odeya spoke nicely to her. Amanda forgot about her embarrassment and smiled at Odeya.
“Thanks for the compliment.” she said.
Odeya rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t complimenting you. Make it more tasty next time.”
Amanda exhaled.
“Go wash your face. Your face look like some trash bin.” Odeya said.
‘My face look like a trash bin? Tch.. Odeya you will never stop being sassy all your life!’
She stood up and headed into Odeya’s bathroom to wash off the pancakes on her face.
Later that night, Amanda had bathe Odeya and dressed her into her pajama.
Then made dinner for the both of them and I.K too.
Odeya was sitting on the floor of the suiting room and doing her home works as Amand went out to hand I.K his dinner.
She got there and I.K dropped the radio he was listening to and stood up from the usual plastic chair he always sit.
“You bring my food?.” he asked.
“Yes.” Amanda said as she handed it to him and turned to leave but he called her back.
“Ehm.. Beautiful Amanda, wait.”
“What is it?” Amanda asked.
“Ehn shey you talk to her?” he asked.
That was when Amanda remembered. She havent!
“Ehn.. See ehn, I don’t lie to you. I haven’t because she got really upset but I will go in now and tell her before oga comes back.” I said.
“A beg do.. Oga go soon come back. Abeg” I.k said.
“I will.” Amanda said and hurried off.
I.k bit his lips as he stared at her behind. “Chai na this kind nyash dey put man for trouble.”
Just then a car horned, startling him.
“I don die.. Oga don come back.” he said as he dropped the tray of food and hurried to the gate with a beating heart.
He opened the gate and the car drove in.
He saluted like a soldier saluting the president. “Oga sir! I salute your return.”
Desmond chuckled at the kind of greeting I.k is giving him this night as he drove to the garage. Once he drove into the garage, he turned off the car, grabbed his briefcase and came down, locking the car with a remote.
“Oga.. Nothing do you. Welcome sir!” I.k kept his salute from where he stood.
Desmond waved at him and headed into the house.
“Heee, abeg no fire me biko.. I get family for village.” I.k lamented as he fell to the ground.
Inside the house, Amanda was pleading with Odeya not to tell her dad about firing I.k.
“I’m finding it hard to concentrate on my homework with your bug. You are a such a bee.” Odeya said.
“Please don’t. I’m begging you on his behalf.”
“I said shut up!” Odeya yelled at Amanda.
Just then the door opened and Desmond walked in.
“What’s happening.. I heard voices?” Desmond asked.
“Nothing sir. Welcome sir.” Amanda said and looked at Odeya.
Desmond looked at his daughter. “What’s wrong Odeya?” he asked.
Amanda begged Odeya with her eyes.
Odeya exhaled and turned to her dad.
“Nothing dad. Welcome. I was asking her for help on my home works but she seem not to know anything.” Odeya said.
Amanda was relieved that she didn’t say the truth but then the lie.. Why would it be such lie..
Why wouldn’t she know how to solve primary 2 works!
“Oh really, that’s okay. I’m coming to help you with it.. I will be back in a jiffy.” Desmond said and headed upstairs.
Odeya glared at Amanda. “For this, you are going to sing fifty different poems tonight. Don’t even think I’m going to blink my eyes until you finish it.”
Amanda gasped. “What?”

Odeya odeya.. How many times did I call you?
This your mouth is too dangerous.

[The Secret] Amanda made Desmond’s dinner and then carried Odeya upstairs to her bedroom.
She knew it was punishment she was going in to face.
Immediately she dropped Odeya on the bed, Odeya said, “Your punishment starts now.”
Amanda sighed. “I’m hungry.”
“You can’t eat when you are on punishment.” Odeya said.
Amanda sighed. “You are so unfair.”
“I know… At least I was kind enough not to tell my dad about it.” Deya said.
“Fine. I will sing the poems.” Amanda said.
Amanda began.
Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are-
“You sang that yesterday.” Deya cut her short.
“It doesn’t matter. How do you expect me to sing fifty different poems for you.” Amanda said.
“Because it’s a punishment. A punishment is a punishment, it doesn’t matter how unfair it is.” Deya said.
“Why not give me another punishment?” Amanda asked.
“There’s no other punishment greater than this.” she said.
Amanda sighed then an idea popped into her head. “Do you want me to keep your secret?” she asked.
Odeya tilted her head. “What secret?”
Amanda smiled and walked closer. “You like Jeremy.” she said.
Odeya suddenly got scared by that. Jeremy must know that she likes him and want to be his friend.
“No way. What are you planing to do?” she asked Amanda who was surprised to see the sudden fear written in Odeya’s eyes.
She stepped back as her hands went akimbo. “Uhm well I was thinking of telling him about it tomorrow.”
“No way!!” Odeya shouted.
Amanda smiled. “Then what if you stop being a little sassy to me and I will keep your little secret safe with me.”
Odeya scoffed. “Really? Are you threatening me?”
“Of course not. I just want you to stop being a little sassy.” Amanda said.
“I can’t stop and you dare not threaten me. I’m gonna tell my dad to fire you.” Deya said.
Amanda smiled. “Do you think sacking me will keep your secret safe? Oh no dear Deya. I would go right to the school and still tell it to him.” Amanda said.
Deya became speechless as thoughts ran through her little mind.
If she tells Jeremy then the whole class will laugh at her.
She had told Jeremy on Friday and even yesterday that she wouldn’t wanna make friends with a black pot like him.
No, he must find that she like him.
Amanda grinned. “Are you not going to say something Deya?”
“Fine! Don’t! Don’t tell him anything.” she said.
“Then it means that you would stop being sassy to me?” Amanda asked.
“A little.” Odeya said.
“Fifty percent” Amanda said.
“Ten percent.” Odeya said.
“Forty.. Or else you don’t care about your secret.”
“Okay fine. Forty percent!” Odeya half yelled.
Amanda grinned from ear to ear. “That’s better. I’m so free from forty percent of your sass.”
“There’s still sixty percent.” Odeya said.
“Well this forty concludes.. No more punishment of hundred poems. No rejection of meals. No insultive words.” Amanda said.
“Excuse me? then what about the sixty?” Odeya asked.
“I don’t know. Just do the ones I said and your secret is safe.” Amanda said.
“Tch.. are you kidding me?” Deya said.
“I’m not dear Deya. Uhm, but don’t worry. I have a nice story to tell you. It isn’t scary at all. It’s very interesting. My mom always tell me folk stories when I was little. I will tell all of them to you.” Amanda said.
“Those would be old stories. I don’t want them.” she said.
“Okay then. I will leave then. Since you don’t want it. Goodnight Deya.” Amanda said and was heading out when Deya stopped her.
“Fine.. I will listen to the folk stories.” she said.
Amanda smiled and walked back. She pulled a seat close and sat down.
Odeya lay down and Amanda covered her with the duvet.
“Here is the story. Once upon a time, In the land of Animals, Tortoise was the wisest among them.
Then one day, A great feast was to be held up in the sky by the sky animals, the birds, the eagles and all the animals that lives up above the sky.
The king of the birds invited the some land animals to this great feast. Tortoise was among the animals that were invited.
To this land animals, the birds lend wings to fly up to the sky for this great feast.
Tortoise was very excited because he knew he is going to have a lot to eat and drink.
The day for the feast came and all the land animals that were invited flew up the sky with their borrowed wings.
They reached the venue and all sat down on one table.
The king of the sky animals welcomed them warmly and asked each of them their names. They all said their respective names but because tortoise was wise and had plans, he lied that his name is ‘All of you.'”
“Why would he say that?” Odeya asked, getting interested and curious on why tortoise would say that his name was All Of You.
“You will get to know now” Amanda said and continued. “..When the time for eating and drinking came, different types of food and drinks were brought to their table and the birds who brought them said to the land animals. “This is for All of You, please enjoy.”
Tortoise immediately rushed the food claiming it was all for him since he’s name is all of you.
He ate and ate all the food. drank and drank all the wines.
The land animals were very angry and went to the king in complain.
The king became enraged and asked for Tortoise borrowed wings to be taken from him.
His borrowed wings were taken from his body and there was no way he could fly down to land.
He looked down from the sky and called unto his wife with a loud voice. “Dear wife, bring out all the soft property we have in the house. I am going to fall down from this sky because my borrowed wings had been taken from me. But the wife didn’t hear what he said. She thought he said to bring out all the plates, pots, spoons and basins in the house because he’s flying down with excess food and drinks.
When Tortoise saw her bring out all the things. He thought it was actually the soft things so off he fell from the sky and when he landed on the hard, iron things, his back broke leaving him with shattered back.
That is why every tortoise have cracked backs.” Amanda finished and Odeya laughed.
“That was so stupid of tortoise.” she said.
“Yes it was. And the story teaches that greediness isn’t a good character.” Amanda said.
“Did you enjoy the story?” She asked Odeya.
“It wasn’t interesting.” Odeya lied.
“Really but I saw you smiling and laughing.” Amanda said.
“I was only laughing at tortoise stupidity.” Odeya said.
“If you did that means you enjoyed the story.” Amanda said.
“I didn’t.” she said.
“Okay then. I would leave you to sleep, tomorrow is school.” Amanda said as she turned on the bedside lamp.
She stood up. “Goodnight Odeya.” she said then walked to the switch and switched off the lights before walking out and closing the door.
At the corridor as she headed downstairs, she met her boss walking towards. His room is before Odeya’s.
She admired the way he walks and the way he dresses even at home.
His built body makes her wonder how long he spends at the gym.
‘He’s totally handsome in all ramification’ She thought.
She bowed when he passed her and when did, she stopped and glanced back at him before turning towards the staircase.
“I shouldn’t admire too much.” Amanda mumbled to herself.
Her stomach grumbled. “Ahh I’m so hungry.” she said, rubbed her crying stomach as she hurried towards the kitchen.
She was happy that idea of ‘Keeping your secret safe’ came to her mind if not, she probably would have still be singing poems by now.
She smiled happily.
Desmond opened Odeya’s door and peeped in to see her covered well on the bed. He exhaled and closed back the door before heading to his bedroom.
Entering his bedroom, he sat down at the edge of the bed then carried his apple laptop to work on some business forms.
He wore his glasses.
Twenty minutes into what he was working on, his private phone number began ringing.
He checked the caller but it wasn’t saved.
“How possible? I didn’t give anyone this number recently.” he said as he checked the number. It ended at 677.
‘677’ that number look familiar to him. It looked like he had seen it somewhere but can’t remember how or when.
Nevertheless, he picked it up since it’s his private number. He’s super cautious of it.
He placed the phone to his left right ear and a soft feminine voice spoke from the other end.
“Hello Mr Desmond Okoye.”
Desmond wondered who it was.
He can’t remember giving any lady his private number recently. He has his business numbers and so he wouldn’t say she’s calling for business.
“May I know how you got my number and your name?” Desmond requested.
“Actually, my name is Gold Benson. Henry Nosa gave your number to me. I’m sorry I had to call at this hour, my apologies.” she said.
Desmond remembered immediately. It was the lady Henry talked about at the office, but how could he give her his private number?
‘I’m certainly going to murder that idiot tomorrow.’
“Excuse me Lady, I don’t know what Henry told you or what you are tryna do.. I gotta tell you this.. I’m not ready for it and I can’t give you that chance OK. I would advise you to delete this number and go on with your life.” Desmond said.
“I understand perfectly.. I’m not worried about the way you gonna see me or treat me. I’m ready to face all that. You are the kind of man every lady dreams to be with. You deserve true love and I’m ready to sacrifice all my time and attention in loving you and loving your daughter.”
Desmond sighed. “Stop talking about love. You don’t know me, I don’t know you. Why talking about love to me? I’m busy at the moment. I would advise you not to call this number again.” he said and with that, he dropped them call. Flung the phone away and went on with what he was going.
“That jerk, Henry! I will deal with him tomorrow.” Desmond said.
Gold sighed when Desmond clicked the call on her. Just then, Chioma walked in.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” Chioma asked, seeing Gold’s face.
“He’s pretty mean.” Gold said.
“Who?” Chioma asked.
“My soon to be boyfriend.” Gold said and smiled.
Chioma chuckled and sat on a sofa in the room.
“You are a box of joke Gold. What did he say?”
Gold sat up on the bed and crossed her legs at the center of the bed with a pillow on her crossed legs.
“Some mean stuff like I shouldn’t call him again and all that but damn babe, even in such tone, his voice was sooo romantic.. Oh my.. God. That guy is fire! He’s body is one in a trillion.. I don’t care whatever he do to me or say. I’m going right to his office tomorrow.” Gold said, laughing.
“To his office? Girl isn’t that too fast?” Chioma asked.
“Excuse me babe, I make hay while the Sunshine remember opportunity come but once. Na who race fast dey reach post. I no fit slow down.” Gold said.
Chioma laughed. “I trust you babe. You no dey carry last.”
Gold smiled. “Na so. If he look my front and my behind finish, he go change him mind fast fast.”
Chioma laughed. “Gold.”
“Abeg, tell me wetin happen today. Where did Collins take you too? Show me the bag, make I tap from your blessing.”
“Of course the best boutique in this city. He knows I don’t wear trash.” Chioma said as he threw the bag at Gold.
“The red dress inside is yours.” Chioma said.
“Woahhhhhhhhhh.!.” Chioma exclaimed.
Amanda finished eating and after clearing the plates in the sink, she switched off all the lights and headed upstairs to her bedroom.
She entered in, closed the door and fell on her bed.
“Oh, I still have to take my shower.” She sighed as she got up and headed to the bathroom.
She had her bathe, changed into her sleeping wears and lay back on the bed. Just then, her phone rang and it was Ekene.
“This guy again this night!”
She switched the phone to flight mode.
“If it means switching my phone to flight mode every night, then I don’t mind.” She said and dropped the phone.
The next day, Amanda woke up and made breakfast and Odeya’s school lunch.
Then went to Odeya’s room to wake her up.
She opened the door, walked in and turned off the beside lamp.
She tapped Odeya on the arm.. “Wake up Odeya. It’s morning. You have to prepare for school.” she said.
“Odeya wake up..”
“Just go away!.” Odeya said.
Amanda came to her ear. “Don’t you want to see Jeremy today?” she asked.
Odeya opened her eyes and Amanda smiled.
“Let’s go to the bathroom then.” Amanda said.
Odeya sat up. “I’m going!” she said.
Amanda smiled.
That morning, Odeya ate her breakfast without complaint. Even though she really wanted to complain and yell at Amanda that the food taste horrible, she couldn’t because of the secret.
She ate her breakfast in silence, surprising her dad.

Something to hold Odeya for now.

[The Office Visit] Amanda went upstairs to change.
Truthfully Desmond was surprised about Deya’s quietness that morning.
“Deya are you okay?” He asked Deya who was eating her breakfast slowly.
“Do I look like I’m not fine dad?” she asked him.
“Of course you are.” he said.
She dropped the spoon and drank her water.
“I’m filled up dad. I will go to school now.” Odeya said.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yes dad. Where’s she? Spending so much time in dressing when it wouldn’t even look appealing.” Odeya said.
Amanda heard it as she was already walking down the staircase.
She got down and came over to the dinning.
“I’m here now. Did you say anything?” Amanda asked Odeya, testing her.
Odeya rolled her eyes. “Nothing. Take me to school.”
Amanda smiled.
She knew that if they didn’t have that agreement, she would have repeated it to her face.
Desmond was surprised. For the past three months, he had known his daughter so much that he could tell her next of action in every thing.
He was expecting her to repeat that to Amanda but surprising she said ‘nothing’
Something is fishy.
“Alright. Let’s go dear.” Amanda said and tried carrying Odeya but Odeya halted her.
“I can walk myself. I didn’t ask you to do that.” Odeya said.
‘There she comes again.’ Amanda thought, but she will let this slide. She still have sixty percent of rudeness to display.
“Alright” Amanda said and carried Odeya’s lunch box and they headed out.
When they got to the car, Amanda opened the door and crossed her hands.
Odeya waited for her to carry her into the car but nothing like that was happening.
Amanda laughed inside of her as she watched Odeya waiting for her to carry her into the car.
Odeya narrowed her eyes at her nanny. “What are you waiting for? Get me into the car.”
Amanda smiled at her. “Well, I was thinking that you don’t want me to carry you since you can walk yourself. I was thinking you can get in the car yourself too.”
Odeya raised her brows. “What?”
“Yes dear Odeya.”
“Are you kidding me? You want me to report your manners to my dad huh.” Odeya said.
“It’s not my fault Odeya. You didn’t want me to carry you. But it’s fine. I will do that now.” Amanda said and then carried her into the car.
“You are getting fired.” Odeya said.
Amanda smiled and leaned closer. “Remember the secret.”
Odeya sighed and shouted. “Fine!”
From the driver’s seat, Peter watched the duo in surprise.
‘Did Amanda just control that girl? What did she tell her?’ he wondered.
Amanda got inside the car, smiling and closed the door.
“Don’t feel like a heroine.” Odeya said.
Amanda chuckled. “Sometimes it feels nice to be a heroine.”
The most surprising thing was that I.K had opened the gate already even before Peter started the car.
And shockingly enough, he waved at them when Peter drove off.
“Go to church and thank ya God say small madam forgave you..” Peter said to him.
“I don dey thank am since. Thank you Small madam” I.k said then knelt down and raised his hand up. “Thank you Jehovah. Wetin I for tell my wife and five children?”
The drive to Valentina school was in silence. Peter soon pulled into the school compound and Amanda carried Odeya down from the car and didn’t realize she was holding her hand until Odeya dragged her hand away from Amanda’s hold.
“Don’t hold me.” Odeya said.
“I didn’t realize I was.” Amanda said.
They got to her classroom and once Odeya entered, her classmates shouted.
Miss Sassy! miss Sassy is here!
Amanda handed Odeya her lunch box and searched with her eyes for Jeremy. She saw him and realized that her seat is behind his.
‘They are sitting quite close.’ she said within.
When Odeya sat down on her seat. Amanda saw Jeremy’s face turn into a big frown and Odeya’s was only a bit frowny.
‘She’s pretending.’ Amanda smiled. Then waved at her before walking out. On her way, she met Odeya’s form teacher walking towards in her red gown and stiletto heels.
“Hello Odeya’s form teacher.” Amanda called, teasing her.
The teacher smiled. “My name is Mrs Tonia Solade. Please don’t refer me to Odeya’s form teacher. From when I became five, I had a dislike for that name, Odeya. Thank you” she said and walked away but while she was trying to turn into her class, her heel twisted and she fell.
Amanda couldn’t hold her chuckle even though she felt pity for her.
Teachers rushed over.
Are you alright Mrs Solade?
Mrs Tonia, are you alright?
What happened?
Amanda turned and walked away, smiling.
It was around 12pm in the afternoon and Desmond was in his office, busy with work when his office door opened and Henry walked in.
That morning at work, Desmond had been really mad at Henry for giving the lady his private phone number.
Henry had laughed it off and said it was a good thing and the right thing that he did.
Desmond had felt like strangling him right there but there was no way he could. They are very good friends.
But Henry was surprised when he saw Gold walk to his desk. He didn’t expect her to come to the office.
“Gold, what are you doing here?” he asked.
She smiled. “What do you think I’m here for? Of course I’m here to see my boyfriend to be.” she said.
“What? Come on Gold. This is work and isn’t it too quick?” he asked.
“What do you mean? I can’t wait OK. Time waits for no body. I’m here to see him and I brought him something.” she said and showed the white nylon containing a food flask.
“Really? Desmond wouldn’t like this.” Henry said.
“I’m here to make him do. Come on, take me to his office. I thought you really wanted a woman for him. Why acting strange now.” she said.
“You don’t understand. Desmond AK most strangled me this morning because of his number that I gave to you. Now this one, hmm. Desmond doesn’t joke during work hours.” he said, kinda scared.
Gold chuckled. “Is this fright that I’m seeing on her face? Come on cut that off. I knew this company already and you weren’t the one who gave the address to me. Leave this one to me. I will carry the cross. Just take me to his office. My legs are aching already.” She said.
Henry exhaled. “Okay. I will. Let’s go.”
He turned off his computer, stood up and they headed to the director’s office which was just in front of them.
“Wait here, I will go inform you first.” Henry said.
Gold smiled. “No problem, I’m impatiently waiting.”
Henry grabbed the doorknob, opened the door and walked in.
“What’s it Mr Henry?” Desmond asked, looking up from the computer.
Henry cleared his throat. “Actually Director, someone is here to see you.” he said.
“Names?” Desmond asked.
Henry hesitated.l before answering, “Gold Benson.”
Desmond raised his brows, shocked. “What?? Gold what? What is she doing here? You gave her the companies address?”
“Of course not. She had known this company already. Who doesn’t know this company. I didn’t ask her to come either. I think she just can’t help the love she has for you.” Henry said.
Desmond couldn’t believe it.
“What did you just say, Love? Henry.”
“Director, just let her in. I think she has something to tell you.” Henry said.
Desmond adjusted on his chair. “Well, I’m really busy at the moment. Tell her that.” Desmond said but the door opened and Gold walked in, smiling.
“I’m sorry for my rude manner. I can’t just help it and my legs hurt from standing. I will sit for a while in here. Woah.. I love here but not more than I love the owner.” she said and cat walked over to one of the guest seat and sat down.
“I I think I will take my leave now director.” Henry said and with that, he walked out, closing the door. In fact, he wished he can lock it.
Desmond stared at the lady sitting in front of him and smiling.
He didn’t even know what to say because of the way she had made herself comfortable already. And what’s inside the nylon she just dropped on the table?
“I’m really very sorry Mr Desmond. Please pardon my manners.” she said, placing her palms together in plea.
Desmond just stared at her.
“Pleaseeee” she said.
Desmond breathed out. “It’s okay but I think you should get up and leave. I’m very busy and I don’t wanna hear about anything that you have to say.” he said.
Gold smiled. “What do I have to say again when you know it already. Well, I got you something. I found out that hardworking men like you hardly eats in the office because they are always working.” she said as she opened the nylon and got out a pretty looking blue food flask.
Desmond scoffed.
“I don’t wanna praise myself that I’m good at cooking but I assure you, you gonna like it.” she said as she uncovered the flask and sweet aroma of fried rice and chicken filled raised up.
“Cover that back, I ate that yesterday. I wouldn’t want to eat it today.” Desmond said.
Gold laughed, “Come on, why not just have a taste. Only a taste and it’s fine, pleaseeee.” she said.
Desmond exhaled. “I’m busy.. I’m really very busy right now and I don’t eat when I’m not done with whatever I’m working on.” he said.
Gold smiled. “Fine then. I’m glad there’s a suite. I will seat there and wait until you are done working. I don’t mind. I told you all that last night.”
Desmond watched her cover back the flask, put it back inside the nylon. Then stood up and cat walked to the part of the office with couches, table, television and a refrigerator.
She sat down on one of the couch and crossed her legs.
She took out an earphone and phone from her bag, insert the earphone to the phone and began listing to songs.
Desmond breathed out and turned his eyes back to the computer.
When he glanced at her and saw her shaking her head to whatever song that was playing on that earphone with her eyes closed and her head on the couch backrest, he chuckled.
‘She’s not bad at all.’ he said within..

Mrs Chika was heading to the Market when Ekene’s Keke (tricycle) pulled beside her on the road.
He had two passengers inside.
“Mama, there is sun o. It’s a good thing I saw you. Please come inside let me take you to the market because I know that is where you are heading to.” he said.
Mrs Chika hung her shoulder bag well and looked at him from head to toe, and from toe to head.
“My friend take this keke out of my way.” she said.
Ekene gasped. “Ahh mama o gini -what is it? What is wrong? What did I do?”
“You did nothing wrong. In fact, you did a great thing. Oya start clapping for yourself. Don’t ever come near my house oo. My daughter is not me – I am not my daughter. My daughter is far away from this town so go far away from me too. From today don’t ask me about her and don’t ask me to enter your keke. After drinking all the igbo and what did they call it sef- tramadol, you will be driving like a mad man. It is now me that you want to carry. Ekwekwala Ka ekwensu kporom gi oku – don’t allow Satan to roast you in fire for me. Oya.. Na aga, na aga – alright, start going, start going.”
The two young girls inside the tricycle were shocked by the woman’s outburst.
Wasn’t it only a help that he was trying to help?
“Ahh mama, it’s okay. I will go. Take Care of yourself.” Ekene said and drove speedily away.
“Look at him.. I’m sure those girls are not just passengers. I was telling my daughter but she didn’t listen to me. Thank God for Mrs Monica. See how he is driving. God forbid that I will enter his keke. It’s better that I trek to the market. If the sun like, let it beat me black and blue.”

This woman is the grandmother of Sassy.
